Banco Cuscatlán consolidates its strategy in Central America after acquiring Banco Inmobiliario

Banco Cuscatlán officially began operations in Guatemala on September 16, 2025, following the acquisition of 100% of Banco Inmobiliario’s shares. This move marks a key step in the Salvadoran financial group’s regional expansion strategy, aimed at enhancing its presence throughout Central America.

Driving Sustainable Development and Customer Focus

Federico Nasser Facussé, President of Cuscatlán Investments Central America, emphasized that the bank’s top priority is “to support the dreams of our clients, generating sustainable, long-term development in every country where we operate because we believe in Guatemala and in Central America.

Rafael Buonafina, General Manager, highlighted the commitment to “provide personalized, human, and excellent service, supported by innovative products and solutions that truly accompany our clients at every stage of their financial journey.

Banco Cuscatlán aims to strengthen retail banking, promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and foster innovation in financial products and services in Guatemala.

Infrastructure and Nationwide Coverage

The bank launches operations with a robust infrastructure:

  • 48 branches across Guatemala
  • 31 banking agents providing personalized service
  • Nationwide coverage through the 5B network, with over 2,700 ATMs

These measures ensure efficient, accessible, and customer-focused banking services throughout the country.

Established Track Record in the Region

Banco Cuscatlán has been recognized as the best bank in El Salvador for six consecutive years, according to media outlets such as La Prensa Gráfica. In 2022, the bank expanded into Honduras, and now enters Guatemala with a modern, client-focused, and digital approach.

This is not Banco Cuscatlán’s first acquisition. The group previously acquired Citibank, Scotiabank, and Scotia Seguros. In Guatemala, in addition to Banco Inmobiliario, the bank also acquired Seguros Confío, further solidifying its growth strategy and financial services diversification.

An Innovative and Customer-Centered Banking Proposition

With this expansion, Banco Cuscatlán strengthens its commitment to innovation, excellence in customer service, and sustainable development, positioning itself as a key player in the Central American financial ecosystem.
