CMI Energía Leads Historic Water Project to La Palma de Santa Rosa in Guanacaste

CMI Energía continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development and community impact. Thanks to its support, the residents of La Palma de Santa Rosa in Tilarán, Guanacaste, now have access to clean drinking water for the first time, directly benefiting 45 families in the area.

A Historic Milestone for La Palma

In the 21st century, La Palma was one of the communities in the canton without this essential service. The inauguration of this aqueduct marks a historic milestone in water supply and a decisive step toward the integral development of local families. The contribution of many institutional and local actors was crucial, particularly the financial support from CMI Energía, which made this project a reality,” said Katherine Alfaro, Mayor of Tilarán.

Residents recalled the days of fetching water in buckets, concerns about water quality, and the risk of school closures due to lack of clean water. The new aqueduct transforms daily life for families and secures an essential resource for the community.

Years of Collaboration and Effort

The project was first conceived in 2014 and involved construction between 2021 and 2022, followed by institutional coordination from 2023 to 2025. Its completion reflects the joint effort of the Municipality of Tilarán, the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), ASADA de Sabalito, the Ministry of Health, local organizations, residents, landowners, and CMI Energía through its Campos Azules and Altamira wind farms.

This project shows that when the community, institutions, and private sector work together, the results are transformative. At CMI, we believe in development and sustainability. When we learned that this community lacked potable water, we took action, focusing especially on children, since the absence of this resource threatened the school’s operation,” explained Gabriela Corrales, Coordinator of Environmental and Social Management at CMI Energía.

CMI Energía’s Commitment to Communities

Corrales added, “We are proud to be part of this achievement. Our commitment goes beyond renewable energy generation; we strive to be good neighbors and strategic partners, supporting communities with essential services and fostering sustainable development. We reaffirm our mission to create opportunities that change lives through impactful investments that drive long-term growth.

Since 1996, CMI Energía has led the development and operation of hydroelectric, wind, and solar plants across Central America and the Caribbean.
