Holcim Costa Rica has achieved significant milestones in accelerating its transition toward a cleaner, circular, and people-focused construction sector.Driven by the purpose of “Building progress for people and the planet,” sustainability is a core principle guiding every decision and shaping the company’s value proposition in products and services.
The company operates under a comprehensive decarbonization plan, a circular materials vision, and a social impact strategy with targets set for 2030, all aligned with global standards as part of the Swiss Holcim Group.
Science-Based Decarbonization Roadmap
Holcim Costa Rica’s decarbonization strategy has received scientific validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This approach allows the company to focus on improving people’s quality of life through construction solutions with a lower carbon footprint, while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact of its operations.
In 2024, Holcim Costa Rica released its first local Sustainability Report, detailing all initiatives aimed at minimizing environmental impact and enhancing the well-being of the communities where it operates.

Strengthening Sustainable Value Offerings
Holcim Costa Rica has implemented the TSR 70% project, a large-scale co-processing platform supported by a $15 million investment. This initiative enabled a thermal substitution rate close to 60% using alternative fuels derived from waste.
The company also launched ECOPact concrete, which reduces CO2 emissions by 30%, and certified its ECOPlanet Fuerte and Industrial cements with Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), highlighting their lower footprint across the product lifecycle.
Holcim Costa Rica has set a goal for at least 50% of its sales to come from solutions with reduced carbon footprints. In addition, the company has advanced projects in ecological restoration, sustainable water management, and social investment, all within the framework of its 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
