RealMD: Martín Varsavsky’s AI Startup Redefines Online Medical Consultations

RealMD marks the latest entrepreneurial move by Martín Varsavsky, one of the most accomplished serial entrepreneurs in the global tech ecosystem. The startup, currently being tested in Argentina with a global rollout planned, combines AI-powered conversations with real-time access to online physicians, aiming to redefine how virtual medical consultations are delivered.

A Serial Entrepreneur Behind Five Unicorns

Martín Varsavsky holds a distinction achieved by very few entrepreneurs worldwide: the creation of five unicorn companies. His track record spans multiple industries and decades of innovation.

In the 1990s, he built Viatel, a European fiber-optic network, followed by Jazztel, which transformed the internet and telecommunications market in Spain in 1998. Jazztel was later acquired in a deal valued at €3.4 billion. In 2002, Varsavsky founded Eolia, a renewable energy company that was sold for €1.4 billion.

More recently, his focus shifted to biotechnology and healthcare. Prelude Fertility, now the largest assisted fertility clinic network in the United States, has played a role in the birth of 300,000 children over the past decade, a milestone highlighted by Forbes US, which noted that the company effectively helped “stop the biological clock.”

Alongside Prelude, Overture, another fertility-focused biotechnology company, forms part of a holding of four companies that currently concentrate most of Varsavsky’s time and strategic attention.

From Telecom to Biotech and Digital Health

Varsavsky shared insights into the current state of his four active companies during a conversation held as part of the Líderes Unplugged series. The session offered a comprehensive review of his entrepreneurial journey, his core principles as a serial founder and investor, and the evolution of his interests from infrastructure and energy to biotechnology and digital health.

During the discussion, he positioned healthcare innovation as a natural extension of his career, emphasizing scalability, technology-driven impact, and long-term value creation.

RealMD: AI and Doctors in Real-Time Consultations

The conversation also served as the stage to introduce RealMD, Varsavsky’s newest venture launched in Argentina. The startup integrates AI-driven conversational tools with licensed physicians, enabling real-time virtual medical consultations. While the platform is currently in a testing phase in Argentina, its ambition is global from the outset.

By combining artificial intelligence with direct access to medical professionals, RealMD aims to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and immediacy in online healthcare interactions.

A Masterclass in Entrepreneurship

Varsavsky’s participation in Líderes Unplugged functioned as both an interview and a masterclass, offering lessons drawn from decades of building and scaling high-impact companies. Notably, he remains the only entrepreneur from the Río de la Plata region to have appeared on the cover of Forbes International in its 109-year history, underscoring the global relevance of his career.
