Darwin AI, a startup specialized in developing and training AI-powered virtual agents for sales, customer support, and post-sale services, announced the closure of a $4.5 million seed funding round. This investment, led by Base10 Partners, brings Darwin AI’s total funding to $7 million and aims to accelerate the development of next-generation virtual agents designed to meet growing market demands.
Founders Drive AI Innovation for Mid-Sized Businesses
Founded in July 2023 by Lautaro Schiaffino and Ezequiel Sculli, Darwin AI emerged from the founders’ experience at Sirena.app, a B2B multichannel WhatsApp solution launched in 2016 and acquired by Zenvia.com in 2020 for $50 million.
The company’s AI agents work in tandem with human experts, providing personalized assistance, handling queries efficiently, and optimizing operations. Darwin AI currently integrates with key communication channels such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and phone calls, enabling companies to scale without increasing staff.
“Many mid-sized businesses are being left behind in a competitive market because tech giants focus on either large corporations or micro-businesses,” explained Lautaro Schiaffino, co-founder and CEO of Darwin AI. “In this environment, survival belongs to those who adapt quickly. That’s why we are committed to developing AI experts that drive digital transformation.”
AI Adoption Accelerates in Mexico

Mexico has become a strategic market for Darwin AI, thanks to rapid AI adoption and the opportunity for businesses to leap directly into advanced solutions without outdated systems. Lautaro Schiaffino highlighted:
“Currently, 38% of companies in Mexico already use AI, and nine out of ten report productivity gains, with several seeing revenue increases close to 16%. This demonstrates a clear willingness to embrace innovative solutions.”
With over $2 million in annual gross revenue and presence in 20 Latin American countries, Darwin AI plans to strengthen its footprint in Mexico through local offices, strategic partnerships, and ecosystem-focused events.
Investment Highlights and Regional Potential
The seed round led by Base10 Partners also represents Darwin AI’s first investment from a Silicon Valley-based fund, signaling recognition of Mexico and the broader region as key players in AI adoption.

“Darwin AI has enormous potential to empower SMEs and mid-sized companies, enabling them to interact, respond, and close more deals directly on WhatsApp, the operating system for Latin American SMEs,” stated Rexhi Dollaku, General Partner at Base10 Partners. “Lautaro and Ezequiel’s proven track record, scaling their previous venture to over $15M ARR, gives us confidence that Darwin AI will become the leading AI solution for sales automation in the region.”
With this funding, Darwin AI reinforces its mission to accelerate digital transformation for mid-sized companies in Mexico and democratize access to AI solutions throughout Latin America, positioning the startup as a key driver of regional innovation.
