Healthtech Startup Matria Targets Regional Growth in Brazil and Mexico Following $6.5M Seed Investment

Brazilian healthtech startup Matria has secured $6.5 million in a Seed funding round led by investment firm Astella. The round features participation from Endeavor Scale Up Ventures, Floating Point, FluentVC, and follow-on backing from Afya, alongside prominent surgeon and former Hospital Sírio-Libanês director Paulo Chapchap, who joins as an investor and board chairman.

Matria’s AI-Powered Healthcare Solutions

Founded in 2023 by CEO and physician João Vitor Inecco, Matria develops specialized artificial intelligence agents operating on a proprietary Healthcare Data Fabric layer. This infrastructure connects fragmented hospital systems, including management, billing, and care platforms, converting unstructured records into actionable patient context. The company’s product suite includes voice-enabled call center agents, a clinical copilot that structures consultation notes, and concierge agents designed to guide patients through required diagnostic exams and follow-up care.

Seed Funding to Fuel Expansion in Brazil and Mexico

Matria plans to deploy the capital injection to accelerate product engineering, deepen its core data infrastructure, and expand commercial operations in Brazil and Mexico. The startup currently serves over 100 private healthcare clients in Brazil, including major networks such as Rede D’Or, Rede Américas, and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Having entered the Mexican market last year, Matria counts MAC Hospitales among its early clients in the country, where operations now account for 20% of total revenue.

Latin America’s Growing Demand for AI-Driven Healthcare

Latin America's healthcare sector has long struggled with severe operational fragmentation and administrative bottlenecks, where critical patient data often remains siloed across legacy management systems. Matria’s recent funding highlights surging investor appetite for enterprise healthtech solutions that move beyond simple record-keeping to leverage supervised AI agents for direct workflow automation.

The company's expansion strategy targets two of Latin America's largest healthcare markets: Brazil, where Matria has achieved substantial scale in the private hospital segment, and Mexico, a higher-ticket market with growing demand for digital healthcare optimization. According to company disclosures, Matria has scaled its revenue ninefold over the past twelve months, reflecting rapid adoption among private healthcare operators seeking to curb administrative inefficiencies and improve clinical oversight.
