Mercado Libre is expanding its operations in Uruguay with an investment of US$8.8 million that will increase its workspace, operational capacity, direct workforce, and network of associated drivers over the next two years.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of the company's new headquarters at COSMOS Tower in Montevideo, marking a new stage in the growth of its logistics and technology operations in the country.

Mercado Libre Expands Its Workforce and Logistics Network

As part of the expansion, Mercado Libre expects to nearly double its direct workforce dedicated to the operation, increasing from 113 representatives today to 220 at the peak of the operation within two years.

The company will also expand its network of associated drivers. The number of active drivers is expected to increase from 156 today to 228 over the same period.

This expansion reflects the scale of our commitment to the development of logistics and technology in the country. Uruguay is part of a logistics network that we continue to strengthen throughout the region, and these types of investments allow us to be increasingly closer to people and expand our delivery capacity throughout the country,” said Adrián Ecker, Vice President of Commerce at Mercado Libre in Argentina and Uruguay.

A New Headquarters in Montevideo

The US$8.8 million investment will also allow Mercado Libre to double its current workspace in Uruguay. The company currently employs 1,800 people in the country.

The company is the first tenant of COSMOS Tower, which was completed in January of this year.

The first stage of the new headquarters includes floors 13, 14, and 15, representing 3,000 square meters and 316 operational positions.

A second stage is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027 and will add the 12th floor, with an additional 1,000 square meters and 126 operational positions.

Once the project is completed, the headquarters will have a total of 4,000 square meters and 442 operational positions, compared with the 2,000 square meters and 231 positions currently available at the World Trade Center.

Investment to Support the Next Stage of Growth

The new headquarters are designed to accompany Mercado Libre's expected growth in Uruguay while creating additional space for collaboration among its teams.

This investment reflects Mercado Libre's confidence in Uruguay and in the team that is building the largest commerce and technology ecosystem in the region. The new offices are designed to strengthen collaboration and to accompany the growth of the operation that lies ahead,” said Diego Gamba, who recently assumed a new role as Country Lead of Mercado Libre Uruguay.

The inauguration event brought together government and business representatives, including President Yamandú Orsi; National Investment Director Isabella Antonaccio; Canelones Mayor Francisco Legnani; and Uruguay Innova Executive Director Bruno Gili.

With the expansion of its offices, workforce, and associated driver network, Mercado Libre is increasing its operational capacity in Uruguay while continuing to strengthen its logistics and technology presence in the country.
