The Startup Ecosystem Ranking 2025, done by Startup Blink, reveals important shifts across Latin America, highlighting Brazil as the regional leader and showcasing significant changes in Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and Argentina.
Brazil: Regional leader with strong city presence
Brazil retains its position as the leading startup ecosystem in the region, ranking 27th globally, with 28 cities featured in the global top 1,000 and five cities in the regional top 10. StartupBlink attributes this leadership to the country’s large market size and the strength of its corporations, accelerators, incubators, and funding sources.
Colombia: Steady momentum with the region’s highest growth rate
Colombia ranks 36th worldwide, boasting the highest growth rate in the region, over 22%. With seven cities in the global top 1,000 (led by Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali), the country’s ecosystem continues to grow steadily, despite a slight drop in the number of ranked cities.
Chile: Rebounding after years of decline
Chile has climbed to 37th place globally, reversing two consecutive years of decline. Its growth rate now exceeds 10%, driven by active policies, improved access to talent, and a vibrant innovation scene led by Santiago as a key tech hub.
Mexico and Argentina: Setbacks with signs of recovery
Mexico has dropped to 43rd place, with a growth rate under 3%, the lowest among the region’s top five. Several of its main startup cities fell in the rankings.
Argentina ranks 46th, falling four positions, though it still has five cities in the top 1,000. Despite ongoing macroeconomic challenges like high inflation, the country shows signs of stabilization, with a slight recovery of the peso in 2024. Notably, both countries played a key role in reigniting venture capital activity in the region during 2024.
