Nestlé-Purina has announced a new US$100 million investment to expand production capacity at its Silao plant in Guanajuato, strengthening its position in the Mexican pet food market and reinforcing the state’s role as a strategic hub for global manufacturing.
A new US$100M investment to boost production
The announcement was made by Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, Secretary of Economy of Guanajuato, representing Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, during the opening of the Purina Experience Center.
“Between 2026 and 2027, the company will invest an additional US$100 million in the Silao complex to increase its production capacity and expand its market share in Mexico in dry and wet pet food,” Villaseñor Aguilar stated.

Cumulative investment reaches US$700M in Guanajuato
Since its establishment in Guanajuato in 2015, and with this new expansion project, Nestlé-Purina’s cumulative investment in the state will reach $700 million, consolidating the company as one of Guanajuato’s main commercial partners.
The Silao plant is currently the largest of its kind in Latin America, employs more than 650 people, and has become a symbol of how Guanajuato serves as a strategic ally for global companies seeking to grow, innovate, and scale operations.
A key production hub for the Latin American market

From this facility, Nestlé-Purina produces 11 brands distributed across Mexico, representing 45% of the company’s sales in Latin America.
This expansion is expected to further strengthen the plant’s role as a core manufacturing center for both dry and wet pet food in the region.
Purina Experience Center opens its doors
As part of this milestone, the company inaugurated the Purina Experience Center, an interactive museum developed with an investment of US$1.12 million. The center is designed to connect, educate, and create impact by showcasing the processes behind the production of pet food manufactured in Guanajuato.
Once fully operational, the center will have the capacity to welcome up to 4,000 visitors per year and will be open to the general public, schools, researchers, and other groups.
