Meta and Tec de Monterrey drive AI innovation with PotencIA Mx
PotencIA Mx empowers Mexican startups and SMEs to integrate AI, boosting innovation and efficiency through open-source technology.
PotencIA Mx, an initiative led by Tecnológico de Monterrey in collaboration with Meta and Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, aims to help startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their operations. The program seeks to boost efficiency, drive innovation, and open new business opportunities through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
Democratizing Access to AI Innovation
The accelerator’s core mission is to democratize access to advanced AI technologies, such as open-source large language models (LLMs). With support from both the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, PotencIA Mx intends to transform Mexico’s business landscape by empowering companies to adopt intelligent solutions at scale.
Through this project, incMTY, Tecnológico de Monterrey’s innovation platform, leverages its ecosystem-building expertise to help businesses integrate Meta’s Llama model, one of the most advanced open-source LLMs on the market. The initiative encourages organizations to solve business challenges creatively and efficiently using AI tools.

Boosting the Growth of Mexican SMEs
Íñigo Fernández, Director of Public Policy at Meta for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, emphasized the importance of AI-driven innovation for small businesses:
“Meta’s platforms and technologies support millions of people and companies of all sizes across Mexico, helping them build meaningful connections, grow, and generate income,” he said.
According to a study by Morning Consult, nine out of ten SMEs in Mexico consider Meta’s tools essential for their business survival.
Fernández added:
“This initiative, developed alongside Tecnológico de Monterrey and with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, represents the democratization of one of the innovations that will redefine the global economic dynamic in the coming years.”
Strengthening Collaboration Between Startups and Global Corporations

For Josué Omar Delgado Gutiérrez, Co-founder and CIO of incMTY, the connection between Mexican companies and global tech players like Meta is key to accelerating innovation:
“Partnering with global corporations represents an invaluable opportunity to accelerate innovation within Mexican startups and SMEs,” Delgado noted.
The PotencIA Mx Acceleration Program
Startups and SMEs interested in joining Aceleradora PotencIA Mx can register through the accelerator’s official website. Eligible companies must be of Mexican origin, seek to optimize their processes, and have an internal tech team.
The program consists of three main phases:
- Bootcamp: Preselected companies will participate in an intensive event in November, either in Mexico City or across multiple locations. The bootcamp will include workshops, conferences, and mentoring sessions focused on AI and business development.
- Acceleration: Selected startups and SMEs will move on to a multi-month acceleration stage, receiving personalized mentoring and training tailored to their growth needs.
- Demo Day & Awards: The process will conclude in 2026 with a Demo Day, where participants will pitch their projects to investors and industry experts. Two winners will be chosen: one SME will receive a soft landing program to expand into new markets, while one startup will earn a business trip abroad to explore international opportunities.

A Bridge Toward Mexico’s AI-Driven Future
“PotencIA Mx is more than just an accelerator; it’s a bridge to the future of entrepreneurship in Mexico,” concluded Josué Delgado.
By connecting global technology leaders with Mexico’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, PotencIA Mx positions the country at the forefront of AI adoption and business transformation.
