Bold Secures $11.3M Credit Facility from BBVA Spark

Colombian fintech enterprise Bold has secured a structured financing facility of COP 37.450 billion (approximately $11.3 million USD) from BBVA Spark. The capital injection is designed to expand Bold's digital credit platform and strengthen financial access for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across Colombia.

Founded to provide modern payment infrastructure and data-driven financial services, Bold has established itself as a cornerstone for small businesses transitioning to digital transactions. The transaction was structured as a bilateral credit agreement, with international law firm Cuatrecasas acting as legal advisor to Bold during the negotiation process.

BBVA Spark Financing Supports Bold's Merchant Lending

The newly acquired funds will be deployed directly toward scaling Bold’s lending operations. By providing targeted credit lines to merchants who traditionally lack access to legacy banking products, Bold aims to bridge the financing gap that limits operational growth for small business owners throughout the region.

Embedded Finance Expands Access to SME Credit

The partnership underscores a broader acceleration in Latin America’s embedded finance ecosystem, where specialized technology providers are increasingly bridging the gap between traditional banking liquidity and underserved retail merchants. BBVA Spark, BBVA's dedicated unit for high-growth tech companies and scaleups, has actively positioned itself as a primary financier for the region's top-tier fintech contenders.

Operationally, Bold has experienced rapid expansion. The company has collectively serviced hundreds of thousands of merchants across Colombia and Peru, processing billions of dollars annually in card payments and QR code transactions. As macroeconomic pressures compel businesses to optimize cash flow management, the integration of digital payments with instant credit lines has become a vital differentiator for regional fintech platforms.
